- Read The Blue Aspic by Edward Gorey. As Ortenzia Caviglia's star as an opera singer rises, that of her reticent admirer, Jasper Ankle, is fading. As Jasper descends into madness, he expresses his admiration by staging accidents to Ortenzia's opponents and his rivals for her affection. At the end, he has no money, no home, one ticket to one last concert... and a knife. Fans of Mr Gorey have uncovered some clues as to why Jasper Ankle's last words were "J'ai trouve Hortense!" but an explanation for the title remains elusive, aside from the picture on the cover showing Jasper's head embedded in a construction of blue aspic on a plate. The pictures are especially fine. Buy this book.
