Stone Soup

My daughter Ruric loved preparing Stone Soup for me when she was a child. Just like in the fairy stories. Breaking in a new rock was a bit hard on the teeth if you did not boil it a few times first. There was no way to scrub all the dirt out.

• One quart pressure-cooked garbanzo beans (chick peas)
• One can corn
• Chopped potatoes
• Salt and Pepper
• One very clean stone (optional)

If more of the villagers turn up with any of the following to add, hurray!

• Small seashell pasta cooked al dente in vegetable broth
• Onions and garlic, chopped and sauteed in olive oil
• Chopped peeled tomatoes
• Basil and/ or thyme
